4-star EQMM Review for The 8 Mansion Murders
“A treat for fans of the sub-genre”

LRI is pleased and proud to announce that The Gold Watch, a brand new Halter novel, will be available in English on June 1.
This complex and intricate novel is not just a translation of one of Paul’s earlier works, initially published in French. For the first time, a Halter novel will be appearing in English before appearing in French!
Below you will find the Publishers Weekly review:

The March/April issue contains ‘The Helm of Hades’, the 13th Halter story in EQMM, and my 12th. That makes 24 EQMM stories in all from me, with the 25th coming up in the July/August 2019 issue. The indefatigable Jim Noy (“JJ”) has given his ranking of all the Halter shorts published in English so far:
Opinions may vary about the ranking, but I certainly agree that ‘The Cleaver’ deserves to be right up there.
Hmm, that makes 10 uncollected Halter stories…
Technically, I shouldn’t be thrilled about a 3-start review, but The Invisible Element always has an interesting take, and the review overall is more positive than the rating.

What more is there to add?
I am naturally proud and honoured to have earned the privilege. This is also a great introduction to Kate Jackson’s website.
Thanks, Kate!

From one of the most thoughtful and carefully crafted blogs around
Gaston Boca’s brilliant The Seventh Guest is now available in paperback and ebook formats, although the format for the former is slightly different from previous titles (and will continue to be henceforth).
No photograph of Gaston Boca could be found, so I made one up. See if you can guess who it is.
Hands up all those who spotted The Seventh Guest on the bookshelf? Here’s PW’s review. The official date is January, but I’m shooting for early December. Gaston Boca was an early pioneer of French impossible crime, a contemporary of Noel Vindry, with a lighter style.
Takemaru Abiko’s The 8 Mansion Murders becomes the 4th LRI Mystery to make Publishers Weekly’s annual Best Mystery list:

Previous winners: The Crimson Fog in 2013; The Decagon House Murders in 2015; The Vampire Tree in 2016.
I think I’ll treat myself to a sip of that 1904 early-landed brandy tonight.
